With S/T/R/A/T/E/S, Bintou Dembélé confronts her history. In this piece, the body itself is a
memory of the past – one that inhabits the body beyond consciousness and knowledge. A fantasized past, a silent past, S/T/R/A/T/E/S is this fractured memory where all of our histories pile up. The body moves between the past and the present to fill in the gaps. Like a living memory still burning with relevance.

On stage, circles are drawn on the floor. A space of freedom and exchange, where four artists initiate bodily states from hip-hop and K.R.U.M.P – two dances born from this imperious rage of life – that revisit this memory. The sounds of bodies, of breaths, of the dancers’ stomping, jazz and blues variations, African-inspired polyphonies make the deployment of tensions and intentions resonate as they give birth to infinitely subtle movements.

« Tel est mon façonnement, celui d’une culture de rue et de l’image qui m’a imprégnée de la rue à la scène sous forme de partage d’expériences d’une culture créée par nous et pour nous. S/T/R/A/T/E/S est une performance. Un terme qui pour moi est l’expression d’une liberté artistique qui ne détermine ni ne fige ce que j’ai envie de dire, qui permet de relier plusieurs esthétiques. Libre de ne pas cloisonner. Une liberté qui ne définit aucun lieu, aucun espace et aucun public. » B.D
