- en mode marron - // Performance

Invited to the Venice Biennale, I was offered two spaces. I chose to mark and suspend time at the Palazzo Grassi, under the direction of Bruno Racine.

A single performance — like an appointment with myself. That of an artist whose journey has been shaped by the unexpected, by spaces of refuge, and by moments of blinding illumination.

The performance echoes the exhibition ENSEMBLE by Julie Mehretu, alongside Nairy Baghramian, Huma Bhabha, David Hammons, Robin Coste Lewis, Paul Pfeiffer, and Jessica Rankin.

So, in subversion, I move in marronnage — cyclically, circularly, from the margins. I strategize, I create echoes and resonances, summoning the layers within me, letting them take space against the current.

At the same time, Meech was performing for the inmates of the women’s prison on Giudecca with Rite de passage || solo 2 — a timeless escape in motion.
