10 Years – 10 Invited Artists
// Pompidou-Metz Center
In May 2020, the Pompidou-Metz Center turned ten: ten years supporting artistic creation in all of its forms, ten years welcoming artists from all horizons, ten years sharing with the public, engaging in pluridisciplinary programming and showcasing the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou-Musée national d’art modern (Pompidou Center-The National Museum of Modern Art). For this occasion, the Pompidou-Metz Center invited 11 contemporary artists to create brand-new pieces of work. Each artist expressed a desire, proposing “11 commandments” for the future, which were revealed to visitors upon the Center’s reopening on June 12th.
This new “decalogue” imagined by Etel Adnan and Simone Fattal, Shigeru Ban, Maurizio Cattelan, Mansour Ciss Kanakassy, Bintou
Dembélé, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Bertrand Lavier, Rivane
Neuenschwander, Daniel Spoerri and Sébastien Thiéry (PEROU) was recounted and sketched out in paint on the Pompidou-Metz Center walls.
The choreographer and dancer Bintou Dembélé was invited to post a teaser of her film – projected through September – on the Pompidou-Metz Center social media platforms. Filmed in the most emblematic places in the city of Metz and the Metropolis, this film is a call, an invitation to come to le Grand Est (Great East).
